Baculovirus for Cabbage Looper Control
Loopex® is a baculovirus-based biological insecticide used to manage cabbage looper larvae in greenhouse and open field vegetable crops. It fits within IPM programs and is suitable for organic production.
It must be ingested by susceptible larvae to be effective. Upon ingestion, occlusion bodies dissolve in the larval midgut, releasing viral particles that infect and replicate in host tissues. Infected larvae stop feeding, become sluggish, and die within 4 to 9 days, with viral particles released into the environment contributing to further spread within the pest population.
For best results, apply at early larval stages before significant feeding begins. Monitoring moth activity and crop development supports accurate timing.
