BoVir®
Targeted Biological Control of Spongy Moth
BoVir® is a baculovirus-based biological insecticide developed for the control of Spongy Moth (Lymantria dispar) larvae in forests, woodlands, and residential environments. Manufactured by Andermatt Canada, this biological solution helps reduce feeding damage and suppress larval populations while preserving beneficial insects, pollinators, and other non-target organisms.
Containing a naturally occurring nucleopolyhedrovirus, BoVir® is ingested by actively feeding larvae, where it infects and replicates within the insect before causing mortality. Its species-specific mode of action makes it an effective tool for sustainable pest management and resistance management programs while minimizing environmental impact.
Product Facts
Target Pest
Spongy Moth (Lymantria dispar)
Crops/Use Sites
Forests, woodlands, urban forests, parks, and residential areas
Application Timing
Apply at egg hatch or when first-instar larvae are actively feeding. A second application is recommended 4 – 7 days later depending on pest pressure and environmental conditions.
Mode of Action
Larvae ingest virus particles while feeding on treated foliage. The virus infects and replicates within the insect, ultimately causing mortality and reducing pest populations.
